About Us

The Afghan Welcome Home Project of Central Illinois is a non-profit 501(c)3 service organization, founded by Susan Montgomery in August 2021. Susan and her sister, Inge Henderson, were deeply concerned and saddened watching the military withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021. Susan decided something needed to be done and assisting Afghan evacuees resettle in Central Illinois was the best way to help.  As they say, necessity is the mother of ingenuity, and Susan saw the need and created Afghan Welcome Home Project.

Tens of thousands of Afghan families are in need of resettlement in the United States and Afghan Welcome Home Project believes Central Illinois is a great place to settle and raise a family.   Afghan Welcome Home Project hopes that you will join their efforts to welcome and support the resettlement of Afghan evacuees in Central Illinois.

Susan is not alone in her endeavors at Afghan Welcome Home Project.  She is joined by her sister, Inge Henderson, who serves as Assistant Director and her niece, Ilene Henderson, who serves as the Operations Manager.
